Being gathered implies a reunion in the afterlife.

Comment on Gen 17: An interesting aspect of the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15) is the decision made that circumcision was not mandatory for Gentile believers. It did not say that it was not mandatory for Jewish believers. The point of the Abrahamic Covenant is that it is a continuous covenant throughout the rest of human history. Therefore as long as human history continues all Jews including believers in the Messiah are required to circumcise their sons on the 8th day.
